England fans accuse Lee Carsley of 'snobbery' after leaving in-form Premier League player out of latest squad

England fans accuse Lee Carsley of 'snobbery' after leaving in-form Premier League player out of latest squad

England fans hit out at Lee Carsley for not picking the Premier League player.

England fans have accused Lee Carsley of 'snobbery' after leaving an in-form Premier League player out of his latest squad.

Carsley has named his England squad for their Nations League games against Greece and Finland.

He called up Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke, who returns to the international fold for the first time in seven years.

But Carsley has left out some big names as fans on social media were left stunned by one player's exclusion from the party.

And there's another name on everyone's lips after Carsley picked his England squad.

People online questioned the interim boss' decision to not pick Leif Davis, who has starred for Ipswich Town since moving to the club in 2022.

Davis was instrumental in Ipswich's promotion to the Premier League and has impressed at left-back this season.

Being a left-footed player, fans reckon he should've been included in Carsley's squad ahead of England's two fixtures this month.

One X user wrote: "No left backs, yet Leif Davis is literally right in front of you. Snobbery is what it is."

A second referenced Morgan Rogers, adding: "Leif Davis and Morgan Rogers can’t be far away from the squad, especially given the uniqueness of them both."

A third said: "Leif Davis currently the best left back in the country, not even in the England squad."

A fourth commented: "I’m happy to see Solanke given a chance that he deserves. But still no new left backs in the squad like Leif Davis or Lewis Hall."

Another tweeted: "Leif Davis of Ipswich town should be getting a look in at left-back."

Carsley's England squad does not feature a specialist left-back but he intends to use Levi Colwill, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Rico Lewis in that position against Greece and Finland.

"The ideal scenario is that you have a left-footed player who's comfortable on the ball but we've also got really gifted wide players so our width and our pace will mainly come from our wingers rather than our full-backs," he said during his press conference. "We're lucky with Levi Colwill, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rico Lewis as options."
