The bookies have tipped who the six other players to be dropped from the England squad are likely to be.

On Wednesday it emerged that James Maddison had not been included in England’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024 and had departed the Three Lions camp.

Maddison was called up to Gareth Southgate’s 33-man provision selection and featured from the bench in England’s 3-0 friendly victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday.

Yet, the Spurs star, who has made seven senior appearances for England and was part of the 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar, is the first of seven players to be cut from Southgate’s selection.

The England boss will announce his final 26 on Saturday, a day after the Three Lions’ friendly against Iceland.

And as per Odds Checker, a consensus of bookies have tipped Jarrod Bowen, Ivan Toney, Lewis Dunk, Curtis Jones, James Trafford and Jarell Quansah to follow in Maddison’s wake and be dropped from the squad.

Indeed, while Bowen and Dunk featured in Monday’s victory, Toney, Jones, Trafford and Quansah may all participate in some capacity for Friday night’s encounter with Iceland.

England’s final squad for Euro 2024 must be submitted to UEFA by 11pm on Friday, while it will be announced on Saturday.

Among those battling to be fit for the tournament is Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw. The 28-year-old, who is England’s only natural left-sided defender, returned to training on Wednesday after a long injury lay-off.

Ahead of deciding his squad Southgate said: "We understand the significance for all of the players so we're giving it the respect and attention it deserves to make fair, right decisions. Of course, it's always going to be subjective.

"It's not just getting the best individuals in, there's a positional element to that as well.

"We've got really good options and I think we've come through tonight without any physical issues, which is really important."

The England boss continued: "Some players needed the game, they needed the minutes and they need the minutes again on Friday. That's why we brought Harry Kane on. He needed some match time today and then to back that up.

"We're spinning a lot of plates trying to get individuals into things, manage minutes, perform well and everything else, but I think it was a good night for us."
