England player's transfer value is nearly 75 times bigger than one year ago after Euro 2024 squad decision

England player's transfer value is nearly 75 times bigger than one year ago after Euro 2024 squad decision

One England star's transfer value has sky-rocketed

England’s preliminary EURO 2024 squad includes one player whose transfer value has skyrocketed.

Manager Gareth Southgate picked a 33-strong group for England’s two friendly games against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland ahead of this summer’s tournament.

Southgate will be tasked with cutting his squad down by seven, finalising his 26-man squad on June 8.

There were many surprise exclusions from the preliminary squad with Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson, Reece James and Raheem Sterling among those to miss out.

Southgate opted to put his faith in youth and called up the likes of Adam Wharton and Curtis Jones who are yet to make a senior appearance.

Also in line for his first senior England cap is Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah, with his inclusion in the squad coinciding with a huge rise in his transfer value.

One year ago, Quansah spent a season on loan at Bristol Rovers and was valued at just €400,000 by transfermarkt.

Unexpectedly, the 21-year-old became a first-team regular in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Liverpool and kept Ibrahima Konate out of the team at times, ending with 17 Premier League appearances in his breakout year.

As a result, his value has sky-rocketed to €30million, via CIES Football Observatory, representing a staggering 7400% increase since April 2023.

Quansah will more than likely miss out on England’s final squad but is expected to earn even more minutes next year under Arne Slot at Anfield.

During the season, Klopp admitted Quansah’s rise took him completely by surprise and even compared him to his defensive partner Virgil van Dijk.

“If you would have asked me pre-season [if] he would be that good I would have been surprised,” he told reporters.

“But since then I saw him every day and I am not surprised any more.

“It’s great to have a boy from our own academy with that potential and quality.

He added while watching the team’s open training: “Jarell…Virgil 2.0, reloaded. Yeah, he’s good.”
