Arsenal are leading the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg forward Noah Okafor, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful start to the season, having scored nine times and provided an assist in his 17 games for the Austrian giants.

Okafor, who’s contract expires in the summer of 2023, is allegedly unwilling to sign a new deal with Salzburg.

In turn Matthias Jaissle’s side may cash in on their forward in January for a reported fee of around £25million.

Leeds United were said to be interested in Okafor’s signature, alongside Serie A champions AC Milan, however Calciomercato is now reporting that Arsenal have jumped to the front of the queue.

When asked where his future may lie, the Swiss international told Calciomercato: “Preferences for the future? No.

“Whether it’s England, Spain, Italy or Germany, every league and every club has a particular charm. When there is something concrete we will evaluate.”

Given his versatility, Okafor would be able to provide cover across the entire Arsenal frontline.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta’s side have stormed the Premier League so far. They sit two points clear at the top of the table, though will need to bring in new bodies in January to maintain momentum in the run in and cope with fixture congestion.

Chelsea fans may remember Okafor for his performance against the Blues in the Champions League in September.

The Swiss international slotted past Kepa Arrizabalaga into the bottom corner, to deny new boss Graham Potter a win in first game in charge of Chelsea.
