Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Arsenal's pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk as talks continue between the two clubs.
Mudryk was reported by The Athletic's David Ornstein as Arsenal's priority target earlier in December, despite claims from Shakhtar director Darijo Srna that the club would ask for a fee of around £100 million.
The 21-year-old has solidified his reputation as one of world football's biggest talents, with impressive performances in the Champions League this term.

He has 10 goals and eight assists in 18 appearances in all competitions, with the Gunners' interest in the player long-standing as they look to add competition in their forward line. Mudryk was described as 'world-class' by former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves earlier in December.
Romano reported on Tuesday that Arsenal had lodged a bid of €40 million, plus €20 million in potential add-ons for Mudryk. However, this was rejected by Shakhtar.
He has now given a fresh update on where the potential move stands, with the January window opening on Sunday.
Romano gives Mudryk to Arsenal update
Taking to Twitter, Romano reiterated that Arsenal's opening bid has been turned down by the Ukrainian side, but that the Gunners are still very keen on signing the winger.

He wrote: "Shakhtar Donetsk have confirmed to Arsenal that they will not accept their opening official bid for Mudryk, worth €40m + €20m.
"It has been turned down, as reported on Monday. But Arsenal are still in contact with Shakhtar and player side, negotiations will continue."
Football Insider have claimed that boss Mikel Arteta wants a deal to be completed for Mudryk as soon as the January window opens, giving the Gunners little time to finalise a move before then.
The player himself posted to his Instagram story on Boxing Day, showing himself watching Arsenal's 3-1 win over West Ham.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah got on the scoresheet for the Gunners, who had to come from behind following Jarrod Bowen's first half penalty.
They are next in action on December 31 when they take on Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
