Arsenal are reportedly prepared to increase their pursuit of a top Premier League striker in a massive January deal.

With half of this season's Premier League behind us, clubs are now able to strengthen their squads with new signings after the January transfer window opened this week.

Despite the recent return to form of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, the Gunners have already been linked with several exciting talents to improve their front line.

And now, Mikel Arteta has reportedly given the green light for the club to step up their interest in one Premier League striker, in what could already be the signing of the window.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are exploring a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha and hope that it can be completed before the mid-season window closes on February 3.

The 25-year-old forward has enjoyed an incredible start to the season, scoring 10 goals and assisting four in 20 appearances across all competitions for Wolves so far in the 2024-25.

With Wolves currently in the middle of a fight for Premier League survival, it is safe to say that the Brazilian has been a crucial asset to the club in recent months.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that new manager Vitor Pereira is reluctant to let his star striker leave the club in the middle of the current campaign, making any potential deal for Arsenal much more difficult.

And, according to The Daily Mail, in order to further fend off interest from Arsenal, Wolves are prepared to offer Cunha an new and improved contract ahead of his current deal expiring in 2027.

The in-form striker recently made headlines after he was suspended for two matches following his behaviour after the Premier League match against Ipswich Town.

Speaking ahead of Cunha's return this weekend Pereira said: “He knows that it was not a good reactions, but I look at a player not only as a player, I look at them as a human being, as a person, and sometimes, even me, I make mistakes.

"Everybody makes mistakes and he knows that he made a mistake."

If Arsenal are to miss out on an opportunity to bring Cunha to the Emirates, in is likely that they will step up their pursuits of one of the rumoured shortlist of forwards that Arteta has created to help fill in for the injured Bukayo Saka.
