A lifelong Arsenal fan from the United States who found out the club’s match against Wolves was postponed just minutes before boarding a flight to London has been given a second chance to see his team by midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Jack Robinson had flown with his wife Heather from St Louis, Missouri to celebrate their 10th anniversary by watching Arsenal take on Wolves at the Emirates on December 28.
However, the match was called off at the last minute because of a number of coronavirus cases in the Wolves squad.
Robinson took to Twitter to express his disappointment, posting a picture from inside the plane alongside the caption: “This one hurts so bad.
“I have had this planned and booked for well over six months, first the summer tour was cancelled on me now this game, lost for words, sick, it’s me and my wife’s 10 year anniversary, wanted to show her something special something she can remember forever.”
Xhaka became aware of Robinson’s post and reached out to the fan through Instagram, offering him and his wife tickets to watch Arsenal’s match against Manchester City on Saturday.
"Hi Jack, I just got home from the game and I have seen your tweets that you and your wife were flying over from America for our game against Wolves," Xhaka wrote on Instagram, as seen by football.london.
"I could see you were upset about the game being cancelled as you had waited a long time to fly over to watch us.
“If you are still in London on the 1st Arsenal vs Manchester City game as my guest to thank you for your dedication to Arsenal.
“Would that be good for you?"
Robinson accepted the offer and thanked Switzerland international Xhaka for making the effort to reach out.
“Words can't express how I feel at this time, you reaching out to us... you don't understand what this means,” he wrote.
What a fantastic gesture from the Arsenal midfielder!
