F1 team's technical director to step down from role as major change announced ahead of Las Vegas GP

F1 team's technical director to step down from role as major change announced ahead of Las Vegas GP

The news marks the second major change for the Formula One team.

A top Formula One team's technical director has steeped down from his role ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

After eight months, the F1 season is heading into the final stretch, with just three races left on the 2024 calendar.

Next up on the schedule is the highly-anticipates Las Vegas Grand Prix, which joined the race calendar just last year, with champion Max Verstappen winning the race.

But ahead of the race on 24 November, one Formula One team has announced a huge change, as their Technical Director is set to leave.

On Tuesday afternoon, Aston Martin confirmed that they were parting ways with Technical Director Dan Fallows, who will officially leave the role this month.

Confirming the change in an official statement, Andy Cowell, Group CEO, said: "I would like to thank Dan for his contribution to Aston Martin Aramco in the last two years. Dan led the team to the success of the AMR23 which secured eight podiums last season."

Fallows joined Aston Martin from Red Bull Racing in the summer of 2022 and, while he will no longer be Technical Director of the team, he will stay with the group in another unspecified role.

Speaking about the news, the 50-year-old said: "In my time at Aston Martin, it has been a joy and a privilege to guide the technical team on their journey towards being race and championship winners.

"It is time for me to pass on the baton, but I look forward to watching the team's future success, which I am sure will come soon."

Fallows was largely responsible for the successful Amr23 car that saw Fernando Alonso claim eight podiums for the team last season.

But, with the team struggling this season, currently sitting in fifth and nearly 300 points behind the top four, reports suggested that Fallows' exit was almost inevitable.

Although Aston Martin also finished in fifth last season, they were just 22 points away from fourth-placed Mercedes.

The news of Fallows' departure marks the second huge change in the staff at the Formula One team after icon Adrian Newey joined as the new chief technical officer.
