Luke Littler sends message to Stephen Bunting after he said he would take the trophy to Anfield if he won it

Luke Littler beat Stephen Bunting on his way to becoming world darts champion.

Luke Littler has responded to Stephen Bunting after he said he would take the Sid Waddell trophy to Anfield if he had won the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship.

On Friday night, Littler became world champion for the first time after beating three-time winner Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final held at the Alexandra Palace in London.

Before the final, the teenager was up against world number eight Bunting in the semi-final, who he dispatched easily, winning 6-1.

Prior to their clash, Liverpool fan Bunting spoke about taking the trophy to Anfield ahead of the Reds' match against Manchester United on Sunday.

The 39-year-old said: "It would be fantastic. And I think it would be made even more fantastic because we're playing Man Utd. So that'd be unbelievable. Just to shove that trophy down their throats as well."

After winning the tournament, Littler, who is a United fan, was asked whether he would parade the trophy at Old Trafford.

He said: "If they allow me to then I'm sure I'll go to Old Trafford yeah. I'm glad I beat Stephen yesterday because I'm pretty sure he was taking it to Anfield on the weekend."

Speaking immediately after beating Van Gerwen, Littler told Sky Sports: "I can’t believe it, I honestly can’t believe it. We both played so well and I said in my interviews I needed to get off to a quick start and that’s what I done.

"I've learned a lot. Last year in the semi-finals against Rob Cross, that was the first time I was 1-0 down, then obviously against Luke [Humphries]."

He continued: "No one will know this but earlier today I watched all of the game back against Luke [Humphries] and I had the visions.

"As soon as that winning double went in, I couldn’t believe it."

Meanwhile, Van Gerwen said: "I come on 4-0 behind and I didn't do myself justice but that's the way it is. You need to try and fight and battle back but after coming back from 4-0 down I definitely was not the worst player out of us but fair play to him."
