Gerwyn Price goes into full meltdown and demands PDC blacklist location from Premier League darts

Darts star issues ballistic reaction after Premier League stops off at unpopular venue

PDC world darts number 12 Gerwyn Price has slammed Premier League Darts organisers in a furious social media post.

Price took to Instagram after he was beaten 6-3 by Nathan Aspinall in the quarter-finals of the latest Premier League Darts event in Rotterdam, criticising the venue and its playing conditions.

He angrily labelled the event as "pointless" and demanded a change.

"Gutted for myself, gutted for everyone that supports me," wrote the 40-year-old Welshman. "I'm so sorry but this week was pointless and we move to next week.

"Darts were blowing everywhere and after leg one which was lucky I knew it's pointless."

A lack of control over one's arrows is a huge problem for a darts player and arguably an unwarranted equaliser in a sport of minuscule margins.

Aspinall was the victor in the quarter-final and managed a 170 checkout but averaged only a fraction above 90 in his semi-final defeat against fellow Englishman Chris Dobey.

'The Asp' came out on top at Rotterdam's Ahoy Arena last year and wasn't unaware that the playing conditions were under scrutiny then too.

"I cannot say too much, but it was bad conditions," he told the media.

"But it’s the same for both players. Maybe I won as I throw heavy darts! Maybe that is the trick. It was tough conditions."

Price is counting the cost of his lighter flight after his quarter-final exit.

"Where I was in the league after vital points it's not what I wanted," he added

"Hopefully @officialpdc will now stop coming here and look for alternative venues, not good for the players, not good for the fans, and not good for people that like a bet.

"Onto next week where we get to play in decent conditions. And if u (sic) think it's the same for both players your (sic) as daft as you look."

Arena breeze is a regular problem

The world number 12 later posted an Instagram story revealing his apparent frustration at the reaction to his rant: "Love days like today, they all come out of the woodwork like woodlice. My favourite days."

World number three and three-time PDC world champion Michael van Gerwen is among the players who've raised their concerns.

"Rotterdam is probably the worst out of the 16 venues," said Aspinall last year.
