Brighton & Hove Albion demanded a player-swap during talks with Manchester City over Marc Cucurella, it has been revealed.
The Spanish full-back had been a long-term target for the reigning Premier League champions, and talks over a potential deal intensified early on in the most recent summer transfer window.
Manchester City had proposed several enticing proposals to the south coast club, with one particular offer understood to have reached £40 million.

However, Brighton had stood firm on their valuation, and eventually received a fee in excess of £60 million from City's Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Now it has been revealed that Brighton had in fact made one significant demand from Manchester City in order to complete talks with the Etihad club.
This is according to the information of transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has detailed a new revelation about a significant moment in the talks between the two teams.

Speaking on his official YouTube channel this week, Romano has revealed that Brighton & Hove Albion had asked for Manchester City's star forward Julian Alvarez on a season-long loan during negotiations over Marc Cucurella in the summer.
Unsurprisingly however, the answer from Manchester City is described as being 'very clear', as Etihad negotiators responded with a firm, 'No way' to the request.

The Argentina international was a player in-demand during the summer window, despite Manchester City having made it very clear that he was part of Pep Guardiola's plans for the now-ongoing season.
In a further revelation, Fabrizio Romano reveals that Manchester City received more than 10 requests from clubs to take Julian Alvarez on loan during the summer transfer window.
Again, unsurprisingly, the player was deemed untouchable by the Premier League champions and their answer was always: 'No way'.

The decision to keep Julian Alvarez at Manchester City has proven to be a correct one.
The former River Plate attacker has impressed many with his start to life at the Etihad Stadium, offering a different dimension to the prolific Erling Haaland.
While the Norwegian international may offer strength, power, and a ridiculous amount of goals, Julian Alvarez provides the City forward line with a relentless press that concerns defenders.
With the football season intensifying as we approach the 2022 World Cup, opportunities for Alvarez are only expected to increase.
