The Undertaker has one major regret from his WWE career and it involves opponent he only faced once

The Undertaker has one major regret from his WWE career and it involves opponent he only faced once

The Undertaker feels there is one thing missing from his decorated WWE career, which spanned 30 years.

WWE legend The Undertaker achieved just about everything in his one of a kind career but there is one major regret he has.

'The Deadman' enjoyed a 30-year career in WWE, having debuted his beloved character back in 1990 at the Survivor Series events.

He mixed it with a slew of legends which spanned many different eras, including Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, John Cena, Kurt Angle, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair and Roman Reigns.

'Taker' retired in 2020 just months after his final bout, before having a Final Farewell at Survivor Series and then being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2022.

As part of his WWE legends contract, the 59-year-old continues to make sporadic appearances on-screen - notably at WrestleMania 40 and the debut episode of Raw.

His very last opponent was two-time WWE champion AJ Styles, though the pair squared off at WrestleMania 36 in a cinematic 'Boneyard Match without any fans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though the unique encounter earned rave reviews, Undertaker wishes he could have had a lengthy feud with Styles - who he likened to one of his favourite opponents in Michaels.

Speaking to SPORTbible prior to his Survivor Series swansong, The Phenom said: "You know, I'm super proud of the Boneyard Match, I would've liked to have had a quote on quote 'traditional' match with AJ Styles in a wrestling ring.

"I've told him on several occasions, 'Man I wish you'd have gotten here 10-15 years earlier!'

"I love the way he works, I love what he does in the ring, I've kinda called him the modern day Shawn Michaels. As proud as I am of the Boneyard, I'd have loved to have an extended programme with AJ Styles."

Undertaker explains who should have broken his WrestleMania streak

The Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania saw him win 21 matches in a row and it never looked like it was ever going to be broken. But WWE fans were left stunned at WrestleMania 30 when Brock Lesnar destroyed the four-time world champion and scored the three-count in New Orleans.

But in Undertaker's view, the honour should have been reserved for the late Bray Wyatt, who would be his next opponent at WrestleMania 31.

"I don’t think Brock needed it," he said on his Six Feet Under podcast.

"Brock was already, in my opinion, an established star, a megastar.

"Roman ended up being another megastar, but it would have been good for Roman to do it at the end of my career if you’re going to pass it on, but Bray, you know, if the storyline would have been done right, that would have been ideally, I mean, there’s so much you could have done there."

Wyatt had a similar style and approach to Undertaker, who feels he would have been the "ideal person" to be involved in "passing the spirits".

He passed away in August 2023 from a heart attack at the age of 36.
