In April, Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the club’s new manager.
Two months on, and the Red Devils have seen some big changes, including the departure of several first-team players, a reshuffle in the coaching staff and other changes off the pitch.
In an interview with World Football Index, United legend and former captain Bryan Robson gave his thoughts on the early days of Ten Hag’s reign, and the potential additions needed during the summer transfer window.

Robson was United’s captain for 12 years, including two in the Premier League era, a role which he partially shared with centre-back Steve Bruce.
The Englishman earned himself the nickname ‘Captain Marvel’ from adoring United fans, representing the club on 461 occasions, scoring 99 times.
Robson explained his views on the summer window that lies ahead for United: “It’s going to be an interesting summer. That is for sure” he observed. “We’ve got a fair few players that are out of contact and leaving the football club this summer, so they’ll have to be replaced for starters.”
With the squad now looking thinner following many out-of-contract players leaving the club, The United legend believes Ten Hag can now add signings of his own to the squad.

“Erik will then want to start building his own squad”, said Robson. “I am interested to see how he sets the team up, who he brings in and how we go next season.”
With many United players returning for preseason in just a few weeks, it will be interesting to see what transfer business has been conducted in that time.
The ex-United captain has identified one profile of player United could look to add to the squad.

“I think the club could do with a couple of more physical players this summer to boost the squad”, explained the former United captain.
Robson also highlighted how impressed he has been with the Dutchman’s early proactivity as United manager.
“I am [impressed], and I think the players will be pleased about that as well”, Robson said. “I am sure that he’ll have conversations with them as soon as possible to gauge how this season has gone and why it’s gone that way.
“I wish him all the best and look forward to watching his Manchester United team next season as I am sure the fans are too,” Robson concluded.
