The former Real Madrid man has appeared just once in pre-season for Erik ten Hag's men, with the Dutchman being on the side of caution.
However, the aforementioned report from Fay has said that the defender's appearance in the behind-closed-doors game was seen as an opportunity for Varane to build fitness ahead of the season opener against Brighton.
Cristiano Ronaldo was in attendance watching the game, as were Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes.
Half-time saw the scoreline sit at 1-1, with new signing Eriksen scoring the goal for the hosts.

Speaking on the youth talent before tour, Ten Hag said: “What I want to see is that they learn but also they show themselves because they have to deserve a position in top football,
"You have to deserve your position. It means you have to deliver every day, that demands a certain style, a certain way of life that they have to adapt to, that they probably don’t know yet.”
Then, following the win against Melbourne Victory, the manager explained that he needs to assess each player before deciding what to do with them next term.

“I want to have an impression from all the players, and they get a chance to show what they can [do] and what they’re capable of, if they can contribute to Manchester United or maybe if a loan period is better,
"There is also other possibilities, but it is good that United has some talents,
"But also you see that you need improvement and development.”
