Manchester United have been given a boost in the race to sign Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen, with Tottenham Hotspur distancing themselves from a deal to bring the midfielder back to North London.
That's according to a report from Alasdair Gold of Football London, who have said that Antonio Conte's side have not followed up on their interest for the 30-year-old.
It was only a couple of weeks ago when Spurs were in contact with Eriksen's camp.

They were speaking about a potential reunion after the player left the club in 2020 following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino and the appointment of Jose Mourinho.
However, Spurs have since suddenly distanced themselves from any talks of discussions involving Eriksen.
The player has a number of clubs interested in his services on a free transfer this summer.
Of course, United and Spurs are two of those. Everton, Leicester City and West Ham are among other Premier League clubs who have made contact about Eriksen.

Brentford would also like to renew his contract at the club after he joined in the January window last term.
Ajax and one unnamed La Liga side have also showed interest in Eriksen.
While there were suggestions that he would want to remain in London, with his family settled in the capital, that is not thought to be the only case now with so many options on the table.
The Dane previously admitted that Champions League football is not a necessity at his next club, which will benefit United.

Their sixth-placed finish last season means that they will return to the Europa League next term.
He is yet to make his decision on where he will play, but Spurs' actions are positive for United's chances.
Conte's side have seemed to be United's main competition for the Denmark international, who has impressed so much since his return to the Premier League.

It has also been reported that the player would be a focal point of Ten Hag's team alongside Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, who United are also trying to buy.
With Bruno Fernandes' form having dropped off from his heroics of two years ago, healthy competition from Eriksen would be a good move for the Red Devils.
If they are able to secure those two signings, the depth in the engine room would look a lot healthier.

However, United still need to bring in a defensive minded midfielder to the club, otherwise the same problems will still arise under Erik ten Hag next season.
