Manchester United welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford for their second meeting in a week with hope of avenging last weekend’s 3-1 defeat.
A humbling 3-1 defeat at the weekend saw Unai Emery start his reign as Aston Villa manager in the best possible way. Aston Villa ran out deserved winners but it was arguably United’s worst performance under Erik ten Hag since those early weeks of the season.
It’s not often a chance to avenge a defeat comes so soon and United will be keen to get back on track and their name in the hat for the next round.

The League Cup may represent Ten Hag’s best chance of winning a trophy in his maiden season at the club. Last night saw Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all crash out at the first hurdle, potentially increasing The Reds’ chances of lifting the trophy.
A Round of 32 tie in the Europa League with Barcelona awaits and with the club already 11 points adrift in the league, some supporters may add a little more importance to the League Cup this season.
Erik ten Hag has fielded a much-changed team, no doubt with one eye on the fixture against Fulham on Sunday. Erik ten Hag confirmed that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho miss the game through illness whilst Antony still remains on the side-lines with an injury. Martin Dubravka finally makes his debut for the club after joining in the summer and Anthony Martial starts for the first time since coming back from injury.
