Draper's opponent was fuming after being knocked out by the controversial shot.

British tennis star Jack Draper made it through to the next stage of the Cincinnati Open after a highly controversial match point.

The 22-year-old was playing Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of 16 of the Cincinnati Open.

After losing the first set 7-5, Draper came back to win the match after claiming the second and third sets 6-4, 6-4.

However, the quality of the match has been overshadowed by controversy after the last shot of the final set caused the two players and match officials to argue at the net.

The British number one was 40-30 up in the final game when an attempted drop shot landed directly on the net cord and slowly trickled over, seemingly winning the point.

Both players and the audience made no reaction after the shot as they were unsure if the point would stand.

However, shortly after the umpire made his decision, saying: "Ladies and gentleman. I'm ruling that was a fair shot. Game, set, match Draper."

Despite the call meaning he had won the match, the young Brit immediately questioned the decision, saying: "I would replay it. If there was a replay I would replay it but I don't know?"

His opponent also made his protests known, as he angrily shouted that Draper had 'shanked the ball on the floor.'

The Canadian then went on to issue a warning to Draper, saying: "You're gonna get out now, and then it's going to be everywhere. It's going to look ridiculous. It's going to be crazy."

The crowd agreed with the 24-year-old, as they continued to chant for the point to be replayed as a match supervisor came on court to discuss the matter.

After four minutes of discussions, Auger-Aliassime offered the umpire one last chance to change his mind and let the point be replayed.

But the American was unmoved, saying: "If I had a doubt, I would tell you.

We can go back and look at it after the match and if I see I'm wrong, I'll admit it to you."

Eventually, the two players shook hands and the match ended, meaning that Draper progressed to the quarter-finals, where he will face Denmark's Holger Rune.
