We were all shocked when the Canterbury Bulldogs overcame the Parramatta Eels by a hefty margin earlier this week, but for one NRL fan that loss was more devastating than anyone could imagine.
It’s safe to say a lot of our tips and bet slips were thrown into disarray when Parra were thumped 34-4 by the Doggies, but for one punter it cost him a huge amount of money – a whopping $888,164 to be exact.
An Aussie sports fan put together a 15-leg, $5 multi as you do before heading into a long action-packed sporting weekend.

Legs varied from the Boston Celtic defeating the Golden State Warriors, GWS Giants smashing North Melbourne, and the Penrith Panthers maintaining their dominance in the NRL.
The lad had correctly selected 14 of the legs and it all came down to one final game – the Eels beating the Bulldogs by 13 points or more on the Queen’s Birthday.
A given, right?
Wrong.

The lad’s eyes probably lit up with dollar signs when the final leg was meant to be one of the safest of the whole bet slip.
The Eels went into the game paying $1.10 for a win, one of the shortest prices all NRL season – and no wonder.
Before the fixture the Canterbury side had only mustered up 29 tries in their first 13 rounds, while also conceding 57 themselves, finding themselves on the bottom of the NRL ladder.

The Eels, on the other hand, have enjoyed a fairly decent season and were looking to crack into the NRL top four with a flogging of the Bulldogs.
The punter was about to have their life completely changed turning $5 into $888k, however, the Bulldogs decided this would be the time they’d turn it on.
It was only the third win of the season for the Bulldogs, and the Eels simply looked lost out there.
After the game, the punter-in-question posted the screenshot of his bet slip to the Facebook group 'Blokes and their bet slips', and simply captioned the photo by saying: “F*** you Parramatta.

If Pirtek or CommBank Stadium suddenly burn to the ground, then we'll probably have a vague idea of who the first suspect will be.
Unsurprisingly, this punter wasn’t the only one to get burned by the mammoth Bulldogs' win.
Sportsbet’s Sean Ormerod told the Daily Mail: “It was looking like a very happy Queen's Birthday public holiday for a huge number of our punters who just needed Parramatta to win which would've meant all eight favourites won across the round - which is always a very popular multi.”

“Unfortunately, no one told the Bulldogs players and they spoiled the party in a big way.”
