A moment of silence held for Renee Nicole Good during the Minnesota Timberwolves' latest match was interrupted by a fan voicing a political message.

On Wednesday, Good, 37, was shot and killed by a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Following the incident, American President Donald Trump claimed that the ICE agent was was acting in self-defence and blamed the 'radical left' for the killing of the mother of three.

Since then, tributes have poured in from people across the US and abroad, with local NBA team Minnesota Timberwolves' deciding to hold a moment of silence for Good during their latest match.

Ahead of the match between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Cleveland Cavaliers, a message was played throughout the Target Center in Minneapolis.

It called for healing and unity within the community following the tragic events, before asking fans to hold a moment of silence to remember Green while players from both teams stood at midcourt.

However, just four seconds later a man in the crowd defiantly shouted: "Go home ICE!"

The rest of the crowd almost immediately showed their support for the defiant message, with one shouting 'f*** ICE', as other applauded and cheered, sending a clear message to agents currently deployed to the city.

“As we all know, our community has suffered yet another unspeakable tragedy,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said before tipoff in the match.

“We want to just convey our condolences and heartfelt wishes and prayers and thoughts to the families and loved ones and all of those that are greatly affected by what happened.”

Why are ICE agents in Minneapolis?

Thousands of ICE agents started to be deployed to the city, on 5 January as the Deapartment of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed they were carrying out the "largest DHS operation ever".

The goal of this operation was to arrest "fraudsters, murderers, rapists, and gang members", after an right-wing online influencer accused a number of childcare facilities run by Somali residents in Minnesota of committing welfare fraud.

Following the allegations, the FBI launched investigations while the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families confirmed that all the facilities were operating normally.
