LeBron James could set NBA record no-one thought possible but it's for all the wrong reasons

LeBron James could set NBA record no-one thought possible but it's for all the wrong reasons

The King is stuck in a slump that could see him make an unwanted piece of history

LeBron James has set numerous NBA records since he entered the league in 2003, but the LA Lakers icon is on the verge of making an unwanted piece of history.

James is the NBA's all-time leading scorer and, with his 40th birthday coming later this month, is still going strong in his 22ns professional season.

The Akron, Ohio, native is a four-time MVP and – between spells with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Lakers – has won four NBA titles.

After his son, Bronny James, was drafted by the Lakers earlier this year, LeBron and his eldest offspring became the first father-son duo ever to play together in the NBA earlier this season.

His impressive list of accolades – coupled with his longevity, all-round play and athleticism – have earned the 39-year-old a reputation as arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.

James has also maintained an incredible streak of scoring at least 10 points in a whopping 1,243 consecutive games.

But that streak almost came to an end recently. It took the King 16 shots to scrape to 10 points in a 109-80 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, as the Lakers fell to their ninth defeat from 21 games this term.

Part of James' struggles are a result of a run of poor shooting from three-point range that is the worst since his rookie year – and could soon be the worst of all time.

James missed all four of his attempts from behind the three-point arc against the Timberwolves and he has not made a three-pointer in his last for games, a dismal streak that has seen him miss 19 consecutive shots from range.

If the former Heat star misses his next six efforts from three-point land, he will set a new NBA record for the most consecutive threes attempted without a make.

James has stated a desire to play in all 82 of the Lakers regular season games this term, but as his 40th birthday approaches, he might finally be showinhg signs of decline. His average of 22 points per game is the lowest since his rookie year.
