Joe Rogan beaten to top spot in podcast charts by surprise show after huge decrease in downloads

Rogan's podcast the Joe Rogan Experience has been around since 2009.

Joe Rogan's hugely popular podcast 'The Joe Rogan Experience' has been beaten in the US charts after a recent dip in downloads.

Rogan, 57, is best known for his commentary roles in the UFC as well as his much-loved audio and YouTube podcast series, in which he has discussed everything from the legalisation of drugs and the US presidential election, the UFO sightings and mixed martial arts.

For the majority of its existence, the podcast has occupied the No 1 spot in the podcast charts and regularly reaches as many as 50 million listeners per episode.

But it has now been knocked off top spot in the US. So who has jumped ahead of the former 'Fear Factor' host and is his time at the top now coming to an end?

The 'MeidasTouch Podcast' - hosted by brothers Ben, Brett and Jordy Meiselas - has surpassed Rogan, boasting 57.7 million downloads per month according to Podscribe industry rankings.

For the most recent episode, MeidasTouch's snatched pole position with a reported 698,000 downloads.

Streams of their most recent release were up 49 per cent, with 58.1 million downloads and streams in the past month.

On the other hand, The Joe Rogan Experience has experienced a dip in recent numbers.

The latest episode received only 3.1 million downloads and streams, for the past month, with a dip of 41 per cent being reported.

Steven Bartlett, Theo Von, Dan Bongino and Shawn Ryan's podcasts are all included in the latest ten top rankings.

Fans of Rogan have suggested on social media that his recent podcast guests have been underwhelming, with Adam Curry, Mike Benz and John Reeves all featuring.

Longevity, intriguing guests and authenticity have all been dubbed as key facets to Rogan's success over the years.

Rogan himself has previously expressed surprise at the popularity of his podcast and how influential it has become in recent years.

"It seemed like something happened along the line where there was this exponential growth and you don't realise it is happening," Rogan said about his podcast's success in 2023.

"You know when I realise it happened? It was about five years ago, and I was performing at the Chicago Theatre, and I asked, 'How many of you listen to the podcast?'

"The whole place erupted and I was like 'Oh, maybe I should pay attention to the numbers!'"
