Dana White ruthlessly cuts fighter who broke Jon Jones' UFC record and six other stars in roster overhaul

Dana White has released several fighters from the UFC.

Dana White has ruthlessly cut a fighter who broke Jon Jones' UFC record, and six others stars in a huge roster overhaul.

White has trimmed the promotion's roster by letting go SEVEN combatants including a fighter who broke Jones' UFC record.

Robelis Despaigne is the biggest casualty as he broke Jones' record before stepping foot inside the famed Octagon.

He boasted a staggering 87-inch reach which is larger than any fighter in UFC history.

Despaigne, who won a bronze medal in taekwondo at the 2012 Olympics, made a huge impression in his UFC debut as he needed just 18 seconds to stop Josh Parisian earlier this year.

The TKO victory earned him a 'Performance of the Night' bonus at UFC 299.

However, the Cuban went onto drop his next two UFC fights, losing decisions to Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Austen Lane.

White has seen enough and cut the 36-year-old from the UFC roster.

Despaigne isn't the only fighter looking for a new promotion as Matheus Nicolau has also been released in a somewhat surprising decision.

That's because Nicolau boasts a spot in the UFC flyweight rankings, occupying the No.10 spot.

It was Nicolau's second spell in the UFC, having gone 3-1 between 2015 and 2018.

He returned to the MMA leaders and won four straight fights, beating Manuel Kape, Tim Elliott, David Dvorak and Matt Schnell.

But the Brazilian has lost three fights in a row, succumbing to Brandon Royval, Alex Perez, and Asu Almabayev.

Jessica Penne has been cut, too. She had nine fights in the UFC and competed for the UFC women's strawweight title, where she lost to Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Jesse Butler, Charalampos Grigoriou, Vinicius Salvador and Tamires Vidal join Despaigne, Nicolau and Penne in departing the UFC.
