Conor McGregor reveals he placed $60,000 bet on Euro 2024 before tournament started

McGregor, a lifelong Manchester United fan, has put big money on the tournament.

Conor McGregor has revealed he placed a bet of $60,000 on Euro 2024 before the tournament got underway last Friday.

McGregor is known for his love of football, and is a lifelong fan of Manchester United.

He even bought the grey United away shirt from 1996 with his communion money when he was eight years old - and 25 years on, he posted on social media that he wanted to buy the club.

Celebrity Net Worth claim he has a net worth of around $200 million, accumulated through years of UFC fights, business interests and endorsements.

He has used $60,000 of that net worth to place a bet on Euro 2024 - but fans aren't sure about it.

McGregor took to Instagram to announce that he put huge money on Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Golden Boot award in his record-setting sixth European Championship.

Now at 39, Ronaldo is likely playing in his final Euros in Germany, although you wouldn't put anything past the football icon trying again in four years' time.

The Irishman got odds of 14/1 for Ronaldo to end as the tournament's top goalscorer, meaning he will win $840,000 if it happens.

McGregor captioned the post: "60 G's on Cristiano Ronaldo to retain his Euro Golden Boot. Siuuu!"

In response, fans had differing views on McGregor's bet.

One bluntly opined: "Worst bet ever."

A second added: "Doesn't look too good right about now."

A third said: "Should have just given me the money."

But another thought differently, writing: "This is how you make money."

And a second added: "A good man knows one when he sees one. Big respect!"

Ronaldo lined up for Portugal in their opening Euro 2024 group stage match against Czechia, becoming the first player in the history of the competition to play in six consecutive European Championships.
