Liverpool endured a roller-coaster ride of an afternoon that ultimately ended in disappointment after Manchester City claimed the Premier League title.
Jurgen Klopp’s men needed a favour from Aston Villa, and they got exactly that in the first half, Matty Cash headed Steven Gerrard’s side in front in the 37th minute. Going into half time, the league was in the balance as Liverpool needed to score again to climb to the top.
Things got much better for the Liverpool faithful in the second half, former Liverpool man Philippe Coutinho produced a fine finish in the 69th minute to give Villa a 2-0 lead, this sent shockwaves across the country as Liverpool pursuit the unthinkable, but the unthinkable happened inside the Etihad stadium.

Ilkay Gundogan headed in to give City hope in the 76th minute, two minutes later City were level, thanks to a fine low drive from Rodri. And three minutes after they drew level, City went ahead, Gundogan popped up at the right place at the right time to tap home.
In the space of five minutes, City have completed spun the game on its head.
The news reached Anfield and that completely drained the whole stadium’s energy away, Liverpool eventually got the win they needed, but not the title they wanted.
