English footballers often command a much higher price when it comes to transfers compared to others, but who is the best paid Englishman in world football?
With Raheem Sterling likely to seal a deal taking him from Manchester City to Chelsea, the winger is set to be amongst the highest English earners. According to The Telegraph, the two clubs have now agreed a transfer fee in the region of £50 million. Sterling is set to be the first signing made by the new Chelsea owners, led by American business man Todd Boehly. The Telegraph also reported that Sterling’s weekly wage at the Stamford Bridge club will be around an eye watering figure of £300,000.
Jack Grealish is currently the most expensive English player in history after his £100 million move from Aston Villa to City last summer. His wage is also one of the highest, he is on a reported £300,000 per week.
The highest English earner in football is currently Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, the winger signed a bumper £350,000 per week deal when he moved to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund last summer. His high transfer fee and salary came with extra expectations but he has so far failed to live up to them. Sancho was in and out of the United side last season and eventually found himself left out of Gareth Southgate’s most recent England squads. Plenty of work for the winger to do if he is to secure a regular starting spot under new United boss Erik ten Hag and a place in Southgate’s World Cup squad.

One surprise omission from the list is City’s Phil Foden, the PFA Young Player of the Year is currently only on £40,000 per week, but according to reports he is set to sign a new deal in the coming weeks that will take his weekly wage to £200,000, which is more reflective to his quality and importance to the Etihad club. Other notable players who failed to make the list includes Chelsea stars Mason Mount and Reece James, who are on a weekly wage of £88,462 and £58,000 respectively.
Some surprise inclusion includes Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Chelsea’s Callum Hudson Odoi, both are taking home £120,000 per week despite failing to establish themselves regular game time at their respective clubs.
