“I wanted to sign him two years ago but at that time, he was already very far along to join Bayern.”
The Dutchman added: “Believe it or not, his name did not come from me in the process.”
United striker Rasmus Hojlund was quizzed on De Ligt’s potential move to Old Trafford this month, the Danish international replied: “That [move] has nothing to do with me, so I can't answer that question [about De Ligt signing].

“But he is a good defender.”
Speaking about why he chose to move to United, Zirkzee said: “It wasn't a difficult decision. I mean, I love Bologna a lot, but Manchester United just gave me a very, very good feeling. I'm confident that what's planned will also happen.
“It's been a rollercoaster, the past few weeks. Some very good experiences and I'm very happy to be here. Obviously, making a transfer to Manchester United is something very positive.”
