Aston Villa 'reach agreement' to sign Euro 2024 starlet in huge statement signing

Aston Villa have reached an agreement with the player's club.

Aston Villa have 'reached an agreement' to sign a Euro 2024 starlet in a statement signing ahead of the new season.

Unai Emery's Villa secured a top four finish in the Premier League last season, qualifying for the Champions League in the process.

And the club are set to complete their first piece of business ahead of rubbing shoulders with Europe's elite next season.

According to David Ornstein, Villa have agreed a deal with Chelsea for Ian Maatsen.

The left-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he helped the German outfit reach the Champions League final.

Maatsen had a £35 million release clause specific to Dortmund, with Villa and Chelsea comprising on a fee just above that figure, per the report.

Villa are working to finalise personal terms ahead of the Netherlands ace penning a six-year contract.

Emery is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old and wants to add him to his squad ahead of the new season.

Maatsen played 12 league games for the Blues, having enjoyed loan spells away from Stamford Bridge.

He only made three starts at Chelsea, with most of his appearances coming as a substitute.

His contract at Chelsea had been due to end in June 2025, but his deal was extended by 12 months in January.

He's been on loan at Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Burnley and the aforementioned Dortmund, where he made 23 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals.

Maatsen is currently with the Dutch national football team for Euro 2024.

He was an unused substitute in his side's 3-0 victory over Poland last Saturday.
