Arsenal make first transfer move of the summer and it could be disaster for Man United

Arsenal could hamper Manchester United’s transfer plans.

Arsenal have reported made their first transfer move of the summer in what could be a major blow for Manchester United.

After missing out on the Premier League title to Manchester City for a second season in a row, the Gunners will look to add more quality to their squad to finally clinch glory.

Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, it has been claimed that Arsenal have enquired about signing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

As reported by Liverpool Echo’s Everton correspondent Joe Thomas, who wrote on social media: “New: Arsenal have enquired about the availability of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana. More to follow.”

The Gunners’ interest in Onana could hamper United’s pursuit of Toffees defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

As per The Telegraph, the Red Devils are hoping to strike a deal with Everton for Branthwaite after agreeing personal terms with the highly-rated defender.

It is believed that Everton want at least £70 million if they are to part ways with the 21-year-old.

Thomas added that Arsenal signing Onana could really impact United’s deal for Branthwaite, he wrote: “Arsenal interest in Onana has potential to be significant blow to Man Utd's pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite.

“A sale before end of June would be helpful to Everton's PSR position. If that was to be Onana, it would help Everton to, at the least, fight to gain true value for the CB.”

Speaking recently about his future, Onana told Het Laatste Nieuws, as per The Standard: “At previous tournaments you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs. That’s something I strive for.

“I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.”

He continued: “And my goal is to play for an international world club in three years. I also want to have qualified with Belgium for the 2026 World Cup in America in three years. I dream about that. And I will do everything I can to make these dreams come true too.

“I have to and will answer this very professionally: I’m under contract with Everton – and I’ll leave everything else to the media. I’ll just do my best at the European Championships and then we’ll see.”
