Benfica star Alvaro Fernandez Carreras has previously made his feelings clear about a transfer to Liverpool amid reports linking him with a return to Manchester United.
Back in May, it was confirmed that Carreras had left Old Trafford for Portuguese side Benfica.
A statement from United read: “Alvaro Fernandez has joined Portuguese giants Benfica on a permanent deal.

“The Eagles have exercised the option to purchase the player on a permanent basis after he spent the second half of the season on loan at Estadio da Luz.”
Since then, the 21-year-old has impressed in his nine appearances during the 24/25 season.
As a result, the likes of United, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all reportedly interested in signing the young full-back.

However, it has also been reported that United inserted a buyback clause in the deal which saw Carreras move to Benfica, leaving them in pole position to re-sign the defender if they wanted to.
It has been suggested that the buyback clause is £16.7 million, which could prove to be a bargain in today’s market.
Speaking back in 2023 during a loan spell, Carreras made clear that his main objective was to make it at United.
He said to The Athletic: “What message did United give me? That I should go out on loan, that Ten Hag didn’t count on me, that I should continue to gain experience, rhythm, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

“But it’s clear that football doesn’t end at any club and that you have to keep working. My main objective is to return to United and make a place for myself there.”
At the time, Carreras had two years left on his United deal, he said: “We’ll see the situation… you know how football goes, it goes day by day. I have two years left in Manchester and for now I’m thinking mainly about Granada. When I have to talk in the summer, or at Christmas, you never know… we’ll see what happens.
“My objective is Manchester, of course, but it’s such a crazy game that maybe next year I’ll be in Germany or Italy or Spain. You never know.”
