Oliver Skipp appeared to pass to substitute Richarlison, before he'd come on

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp appeared to attempt to pass the ball to teammate Richarlison, before the forward was on the pitch.

It feels very typically Spurs to follow up a huge win against Manchester City, with Harry Kane breaking the club's all time top goalscorer record, with what can only be described as a bad week.

That lost number one goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to an injury, attempted to sign Ben Foster as a backup and then were told they couldn't.

Antonio Conte's side then lost 4-1 to Leicester City at the weekend and subsequently lost Rodrigo Bentancur, who opened the scoring, for the rest of the season, to an injury.

And on Tuesday night, the Premier League side lost their Champions League last 16 first leg game to AC Milan, going down 1-0 thanks to Brahim Diaz's first half strike.

Things could have been worse on the scoresheet but they couldn't have got too much more embarrassing for Skipp, who appeared to place a pass towards Richarlison, as the forward readied himself to come on.

Skipp was only starting in the centre of the park thanks to Bentancur's injury, coupled with the suspension of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

He played alongside Pape Matar Sarr, and the pair didn't do too badly up against Milan's midfield, with Conte revealing his happiness at the duo.

"I'm really happy about the performance from Skippy and Pape Matar Sarr," the Italian said after the match.

"Honestly, to play this way in the Champions League and in the San Siro in this atmosphere, normally it's difficult for important players.

"These type of performances makes me more relaxed for the future. We can finish the season with only three midfielders and I know that I can count on these players 100 per cent."

Richarlison came on in the 70th minute for Dejan Kulusevski but couldn't have the desired effect to get the Premier League side back into the game.

Losing just 1-0 gives them the chance of coming back in the tie for the second leg, on March 8th, though they'll be without Eric Dier, who picked up a yellow card and will be suspended.
