Cesc Fabregas set to secure huge first Como signing after return to Serie A

Cesc Fabregas set to secure huge first Como signing after return to Serie A

Como will play in Serie A this season after promotion from the second tier.

Cesc Fabregas is set to secure his first summer signing at Como ahead of their return to Serie A this season.

The Italian club earned promotion from Serie B last season, finishing in second place.

Como were taken over by an Indonesian group in 2019, with Fabregas and Thierry Henry since joining as minority shareholders.

Fabregas spent time in charge of the club last season between November and December, but had to receive special dispensation to do so by UEFA as he didn't possess his Pro Licence at the time.

The Spaniard later became the club's assistant manager, with Como appointing former Crystal Palace assistant coach Osian Roberts for the remainder of the season in his place. Fabregas had won three of his five matches in charge.

Despite not being head coach - with Roberts expected to remain in charge this season - Fabregas plays a role behind the scenes when it comes to transfers.

And reports claim he has almost sealed his first signing of the summer

According to Fabrizio Romano, Como have agreed a €4.5 million with Roma to sign striker Andrea Belotti, with the agreement waiting on the player's final decision.

Belotti, who turns 31 later this year, has been one of Serie A's most consistent goalscorers for much of the past decade.

He scored exactly 100 league goals for Torino between 2015 and 2021, before opting to join Roma on a free transfer following the appointment of Jose Mourinho.

His time with Roma hasn't exactly gone to plan, however, with the Italy international failing to score in any of his 31 Serie A appearances during his first season.

He netted three goals in 14 games during an injury-hit second season, and spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan with Fiorentina.

While his numbers have not reached the heights of his prime years during recent seasons, Fabregas and Como will hope to unlock Belotti's main quality - putting the ball into the back of the net - to keep them in Serie A next season.
