Former footballer Ally Mccoist has weighed in on the Sadio Mane transfer saga, questioning the star’s motivations for leaving Liverpool.
The Senegalese star is set to leave Merseyside for a deal worth up to £35 million (comprising of £24.7 million up front and £7.7 million in potential add-ons).
While Bayern Münich have not officially announced the transfer, reports from all sides indicate the deal is as good as done after Mane’s head was turned following a frustrating period of stalled contract negotiations with Liverpool.

Mccoist had his say on his regular slot on talkSPORT, saying, ‘Why is he doing it, is it for financial reasons? I don’t know, that’s the question we can’t answer.’
The popular and influential former Scotland striker went on to add, ‘Is it because he wants to play in another country? Possibly. Is he going to a better league? No.’

‘The only thing I can see is the lure, the size of the club, Bayern Munich, is that something he’s always wanted to do? I could actually understand it more if it had been Real Madrid or Barcelona.
I could understand that a little bit more, because of maybe the lure of one of those clubs, particularly Real Madrid.’
‘I don’t get it, maybe he just wants a fresh challenge. Maybe he just feels that he’s [gone] a little bit stale, and that I can appreciate.’
Mane has reportedly been offered a contract worth £360,000 a week, effectively doubling his salary from the Reds.

While we will never truly know Mane’s reasons for moving to Germany, Liverpool supporters will certainly be sad to see the back of one of their modern legends.
