Roy Keane has ripped into Harry Maguire for his latest comments about the club, saying he judges a player on what he does on a football pitch rather than the "rubbish" he comes out with.
Manchester United have struggled in large spells this season and, despite bringing in interim manager Ralf Rangnick, they continue to frustrate their fan base with underwhelming performances.
In a recent interview, Maguire insisted that the United dressing room is together and determined to spark a winning run and lift trophies this season as they prepare to face Aston Villa on Monday night.
He also admitted that "a lot" of the criticism has been "absolutely correct".
"We are letting the fans down and have to come out fighting," Maguire said. "This team finished second last year. We've a bigger and better squad this year so we have to show the right attitude.
"We have big players in the team, leaders. I am sick of repeating myself, but it can't continue like this. We need to go on a proper run, starting Monday.
"I've obviously seen a lot of criticism and a lot of it is absolutely correct. From what the fans and ex-players have said, we get it.
"A lot of it is justified and we all have to take massive responsibility, myself as captain as much as anyone, if not more. We need to start winning and playing well as a team."
Keane, however, has taken Maguire's latest comments with a pinch of salt.
"How many times has he said that?" Keane told ITV following Arsenal's defeat against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.
"I wouldn't listen too much to what Harry has to say. I judge a player on what he does on a football pitch, not what rubbish he comes out with about 'we need to stick together'.
"Judge a player on what happens on a football pitch. United aren't doing enough, but Aston Villa at home, you'd expect them to turn up and put in a good performance.
"It's not been good enough recently."
This isn't the first time Keane has criticised Maguire for his comments this season. Following the club's 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford, the former United captain didn't hold back in his assessment.
"Maguire and Shaw last week were a disgrace to the club," he said back in October. "These are established international footballers, but they need to show some character.
"What Man United always had down the years is players with character and personality. I saw Maguire in the week apologising and he was like a robot.
"I'm fed up with this chat after the game and apologising. Maguire coming out and saying they need to come together as a group.
"No, you need to sort your game out if you're going to be the leader of that group. Get the basics and do your own job."
