Team news ahead of RB Leipzig Vs Liverpool

Liverpool have returned from their tour of Asia and have travelled to Germany ahead of their game with RB Leipzig this evening.

The Reds spent a week in South East Asia, and played their first two games of pre-season on the trip.

A highly depleted side were thrashed 4-0 by Manchester United in Bangkok, before Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in Singapore, thanks to goals from Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah.

The Merseyside club now return to Europe with an encounter against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull arena on Thursday, kick-off at 6:15pm BST.

This comes before the squad travel to Austria for a week’s training camp, as they step up their preparations for the upcoming season.

This game represents Leipzig’s second of their own pre-season campaign, having come out 3-1 winners over Southampton last time out.

RB Leipzig Team News

The German side could be without former Everton winger Ademola Lookman, who has emerged as a doubt after taking a blow to the ankle in training last week.

Other potential absentees include striker Yussef Poulsen, who is on the comeback trail after suffering a muscular injury with Denmark, and defender Josko Gvardiol, who isn’t expected to be fit until the start of the Bundesliga season due to a thigh injury.

Aside from those three, Leipzig boss Domenico Tedesco should have the majority of his squad to pick from for this game, including new signing Xaver Schlager.

Alexander Sorloth is expected to lead the line in Poulsen’s absence, while Peter Gulasci will likely start in goal against his former club.

Liverpool Team News:

As for Liverpool, Klopp has a few fitness issues to contend with. There are fears that Diogo Jota has suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury he sustained while on duty with Portugal.

Alisson Becker will miss out due to an abdominal issue, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came off in the game in Singapore with a muscular injury.

Joe Gomez is back in training after being left out against Palace as a precaution, while Kaide Gordon, Caoimhin Kelleher and Calvin Ramsay are unlikely to be risked just yet.

With Alisson and Kelleher absent, Adrian is likely to start in between the sticks once again.

New signing Darwin Nunez is again expected to feature after a tricky first two games for Klopp's side.
