Raheem Sterling 'Isn't A Manchester City Legend'

Raheem Sterling 'Isn't A Manchester City Legend'

Sterling left City for Chelsea this summer and refused to sign one fans City shirt whilst on tour with his new club in America.

Raheem Sterling has been told he's not a Manchester City legend by former teammate Pablo Zabaleta, who also criticised the Chelsea winger for not being 'nice' about City.

Sterling made one of the more surprising moves of the summer transfer window, when he swapped the sky blue of City for the blue of Chelsea for £50 million.

It brought an end to his seven year spell at the Premier League champions, in which he became one of their most integral players, scoring 131 goals and winning four league titles, the FA Cup and five League Cups.

For City, only Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho have won the league more than the former Liverpool winger, but apparently that's not enough to make him a club legend.

According to Zabaleta, Sterling isn't in the pantheon of City greats along with Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva, who have statues outside of the ground.

Whilst the former full back did say that his ex teammate was 'great' and wish him the best, the Argentine thought the 27-year-old should have been more 'respectful' after leaving the Etihad Stadium.

"The moment you leave you always need to talk nicely to the club you've been playing for, I wish he could behave in that way," Zabaleta added.

Whilst Sterling hasn't particularly said anything bad about his now former club, he was videoed refusing to sign a City fans shirt, whilst on tour in America with his new team.

City fans felt it was disrespectful, although he wasn't the only one, with new Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner refusing to sign a Spurs' fans New England Revolution shirt.

Chelsea have made the England star their highest paid player and it remains to be seen whether they'll play them wide or through the middle.

They have already lost Romelu Lukaku, after their all time most expensive player returned to Inter Milan just one year after leaving the Nerazzurri for Chelsea.

They could also lose Timo Werner, with the German admitting he'd be tempted to leave the club in order to guarantee first team football so he can get in Germany's World Cup squad.

In defence, Thomas Tuchel's side have already added Kalidou Kouliably, and others are expected to move to the club,
