Raheem Sterling has already made feelings clear on Man Utd amid surprise transfer reports

Raheem Sterling has already made feelings clear on Man Utd amid surprise transfer reports

Sterling is set to hold talks with Chelsea in the coming days.

Raheem Sterling's comments about Manchester United from back in 2019 have resurfaced as he continues to be linked with a surprise move to Old Trafford.

With three days left of the summer window, Sterling's future at Chelsea remains unclear after he was dropped from Chelsea's squad for their Premier League opener against Manchester City.

The 29-year-old winger, who is said to be on around £300,000 per week, was deemed an "important player" by Enzo Maresca during their pre-season campaign. In fact, Sterling featured in all six of their pre-season games.

But the former England international has since been asked to train apart from Chelsea's main group alongside several other players, including Ben Chilwell, as Maresca attempts to trim a bloated squad.

Despite having three years remaining on his deal, it appears Sterling is destined to leave Stamford Bridge after he was told he doesn’t feature in Maresca’s plans

One club who are being linked with the winger are Manchester United – a club Sterling is 'open' to joining, according to The Telegraph.

Sterling, who grew up in the Wembley area, has previously admitted to being a "massive" United fan growing up.

In fact, his first game at the home of English football came in 2007 during Chelsea's win over Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Speaking about that day in an interview withThe Mirror, Sterling said: “I shouldn’t really say this — not now, definitely not now! — but when I was young I was a massive United fan. I had an old United kit, from when they won the last FA Cup.

"To be in the stadium… it was incredible. It was unbelievable and that was when I tried to give the tickets to the school. That was motivated by that — being so close to the stadium and not going there more than once."

He added: “If two or three of the kids could be inspired, then that’s all I was trying to do. Purely, that’s how I felt at the time.

"If there was a kid who had a chance of being a footballer, hopefully that will give them motivation or inspiration to change their dreams.”

According to The Telegraph, Sterling would consider a move to Old Trafford but will not press ahead with a transfer until he has held further discussions with Chelsea about his contractual situation.
