Neal Maupay goads former Everton teammates with brutal dig after Nottingham Forest defeat despite being on loan

The on loan Marseille striker is not a fan of his parent club.

Neal Maupay has aimed yet another dig at his parent club Everton after Sean Dyche’s side were beaten 2-0 against Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Maupay, 28, has been on loan at Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille since he left Everton in August. The Frenchman spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Brentford, where he scored eight times in 31 games.

And despite being on a season-long loan at the Ligue 1 outfit, it is fair to say he doesn’t have many friends on Merseyside.

During his time at Everton, he netted just once in 32 appearances. And despite his overall poor showing for the Toffees, it was his off-field activity on social media that riled the club’s fanbase.

When journalist Fabrizio Romano posted a tweet announcing his move to Marseille, the 28-year-old posted a clip from The Shawshank Redemption where Andy Dufrense breaks free from prison.

Previously, after Everton’s 4-0 loss away against Tottenham in August, the former Brighton man publicly criticised the club's fans.

The Versailles-born forward posted to X, saying: “Imagine another job where it’s normalised to get abuse like this,” in a quote tweet on a video of him appearing to be verbally abused by a group of men at a train station.

His latest dig came after Dyche’s side lost 2-0 against second-place Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

“Whenever I’m having a bad day, I just check the Everton score and smile,” said Maupay on X.

And as you may have expected, this did not go down too well with Everton supporters in the comments section.

One said: "We’re awful, we know that. Yet in 39 years of watching Everton, you are the worst I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen some utter dross. So probably best you don’t pipe up."

Another added: "In our hall of fame for one of the worst players to put on a blue shirt."

A third commented: "How can you be this bold to banter your parent club."

Former WBC cruiserweight world champion boxer, Tony Bellew did not hold back and simply said: "P****."

Another fan exclaimed: "Craig Dawson scored more goals for us than you did mate."

But Maupay did not stop there. Another Everton fan claimed that next time he plays against the club he was going to get "snapped".

And in typical Maupay-fashion he hit back.

"See you in the Champions League next season!" he replied before then correcting his tweet by adding "*Championship," in a dig at his parent club's current struggles as they sit just three points above the drop zone.
