It'll impact several teams.

Premier League shirts could look very different starting next season as a new rule set to come into play will impact eight teams.

Politicians are preparing a gambling white paper, which will be published over the next few weeks.

Included in the document will be a review of gambling registration. It will not be outlawed, although the BBC report a 'voluntary change' to shirt sponsorship will be made.

The Premier League will allegedly decide to remove the sponsors of betting firms from the front of shirts. Clubs in the division are yet to vote on the measure.

Eight Premier League teams currently having betting sponsors on the front of their shirts. Bournemouth, Brentford, Everton, Fulham, Leeds United, Newcastle United, Southampton and West Ham United would all have to sport new sponsors for the 23/24 season.

The rule will not impact divisions further down the English pyramid. The EFL, which is sponsored by Sky Bet, previously claimed a gambling ban would cost the clubs around £40 million-per-year.

Clubs in Spain have already adopted the policy of having no betting sponsors on their shirt. Six clubs started the 21/22 season without a sponsor after being hit by the ban.

A statement from the Betting and Gaming Council reads: "On 8 December 2020, the Culture Secretary launched a major and wide-ranging review of gambling.

"The review will be led by Ministers at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, with engagement from across government, the Gambling Commission, the industry, health and charitable sector, those with lived experience of gambling harm, and other stakeholders.

"As the standards body for the regulated industry, we welcome the review and believe it provides an important opportunity to drive further changes on safer gambling.

"We have called for the review to be wide-ranging and evidence-led to strike the right balance between protecting the vulnerable, whilst not spoiling the enjoyment of the estimated 30 million people in the UK who enjoy a bet."
