Southampton and Manchester City have been hit by a huge loss due to empty seats within their respective stadiums across the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
After a poor season under both Ralph Hasenhüttl and Ruben Selles, Southampton saw their relegation from the Premier League confirmed for the first time since the 2004/05 season on May 14 following their 2-0 loss to Fulham.
Their poor performances on the pitch, which have seen them occupy a space in the bottom three of the table since November, have also reverberated throughout the fanbase as their support begins to waver given the lack of ambition, direction and performance on the pitch.
According to analysis from Pendle Sportswear, who took the average attendance figures for the 2022/23 campaign at every stadium and multiplied the ticket price for an adult by the number of average empty seats, no team in the Premier League has lost more revenue through failing to sell tickets on match-days than the Saints.

Findings showed that Selles' side missed out on more than £76,000 per home game in revenue, which accumulates to a £1.4 million loss over the course of the season.
Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side were next on the list, missing out on more than £62,000 each home game at the Etihad Stadium, which led to a total loss for the season of around £1.2 million.
A figure which may come as a surprise, given the fact their side have stormed to their third Premier League title in a row as well as succeeding across other competitions such as the FA Cup and the Champions League.
Their fierce rivals Manchester United came in at third after missing out on a whopping £58,649 per game, which resulted in an overall loss over just over £1.1 million throughout the season.
