Manchester United have 'shortlisted' a Premier League star as a potential signing in the summer, with Sir Alex Ferguson a long-time admirer.
Midfield is viewed as a priority area to address for The Red Devils who are eyeing new talent ahead of the summer transfer window.
And it appears they've lined up a stunning move for a Premier League-based player in the shape of Aston Villa's John McGinn.
The Scotland international is thought to be one of the options under considerations, according to The Telegraph.
The report also adds that his emergence as a dressing-room leader for club and country has attracted Man United technical director Darren Fletcher.
Not to mention Sir Alex, who is a big fan of the player following his heroics for Villa.
Man United feel they lack natural leaders within their squad, pinpointing McGinn for his leadership qualities.
The 27-year-old is valued around £40 million, but - naturally, Villa would be reluctant to sell a key player two summers in a row following Jack Grealish's £100 million move to Manchester City.
McGinn is in his fourth season at Villa Park having made the switch from Hibernian in 2018.
The box-to-box midfielder has made a name for himself as an energetic, all-round player and has the ability to defend and create/score goals.
The Old Trafford outfit are also keeping tabs on Jude Bellingham, who has starred for Borussia Dortmund and England.
However, with the potential departure of Erling Haaland in the summer, Man United expect Dortmund to hold onto their other prized asset.
Declan Rice is another midfielder Man United like the look of following his brilliant displays for West Ham and England.
