Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was awkwardly put on the spot about Cody Gakpo after his side’s 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils returned to Premier League in fine fashion as goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred sealed a comfortable win.
It is no secret that United have been linked with a move for PSV star Gakpo as Ten Hag looks to bolster his attacking options after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Netherlands international has enjoyed a stellar season so far after recording 18 goals and 18 assists in 36 appearances for PSV. He also scored three goals in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
However, it looks like Gakpo will be heading to United’s bitter rivals Liverpool after it was announced that the two clubs have agreed a fee.
After the match against Forest, Ten Hag was asked about Gakpo. He said: “I don't talk about individual cases. We are looking for a striker, it would be good with so many games coming. We want to stay in all the leagues we are playing in and you need numbers in the squad.”

Ten Hag also reiterated that any players they bring in will have to meet the criteria of the club.
He added: “Yes, we are aware we lost a striker, so I think we have to get a striker in, but it has to be the right one.
“The right one is a player that brings quality to the team, not just adding to the squad because that only gives you problems. And, you know the criteria is high here at Manchester United.”
Rashford’s good form could be a timely boost as United look to navigate a busy run of fixtures with Ten Hag confident that the England man can score goals regularly.

The Dutchman said: “I don't want to pin myself on a number. I said it from the start, Rashford is capable of scoring 20 goals in the Premier League, I am convinced about that.
“We are aware we have to score more goals, we have to improve many more of our own elements in football. We have to be more decisive. You worry when you don't create chances, but it is clear we have to score more.”
United’s next match will be on New Year’s Eve as they travel to the Molineux Stadium for their Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
