Sadio Mane’s transfer to Bayern Munich demonstrates why Liverpool should not meet Chelsea’s demands to sign Mason Mount.
Liverpool have been tipped to undergo a major squad regeneration in the summer, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all on the cusp of departing Merseyside.
Indeed, Jurgen Klopp's men, who this time last year were on course to achieve a quadruple, will end the current campaign trophyless, having been eliminated from all three of their cup competitions.

Meanwhile, with the side languishing in sixth in the Premier League, some seven points adrift of a top-four spot, Klopp will look to bring in a host of summer recruits in a bid to transform the club’s fortunes.
The Reds have long been linked to Bundesliga stars Jude Bellingham and Josko Gvardiol, while Mount, who is in a contract dispute with current employers Chelsea, has also been cited as a target.
Liverpool should not meet Chelsea’s demands
The Athletic claim Mount is no closer to agreeing to a new contract at Chelsea, and the suspicion is growing that this will prove to be his final season with the Blues.

Liverpool allegedly lead the list of domestic suitors, while former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, now of Bayern Munich, is also credited with an interest.
However, the publication has stressed that Chelsea will seek £70million for the midfielder, even though he is entering the last year of his deal.
While the Guardian has claimed Mount prefers a move to Bayern, Liverpool are said to have given proper consideration to what kind of contract they could offer to persuade the England international to join them.
While Mount is only 24 years old, a Champions League winner and boasts 36 international caps, £70million seems a sizeable fee when considering the price Bayern paid to lure Mane to the Allianz Arena.

The Bundesliga giants paid Liverpool an initial £27.5million with a further £7.5million worth of add-ons to sign Mane, who was also in the final year of his contract at the time.
While Mane was 30 when he signed for Bayern, he was an incredibly valuable player to the Reds, proven by the Senegal international being voted the runner-up in the 2022 Ballon d’Or, behind Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
In his six years at Anfield Mane won the Premier League, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
