Leeds are set to rival Liverpool in the pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes.
Nunes made 50 appearances across all competitions for Sporting last season, and his excellent form has sparked interest from a host of top European clubs.
According to Portuguese outlet Correio de Manha, Liverpool were said to be the frontrunners for the 23-year-old’s signature as they look to bolster their ageing midfield.

But now, according to Record (via Sport Witness), Leeds have entered the race to sign the talented Portugal international.
The report claims that several more clubs have expressed an interest in Nunes, including the likes of Bayern Munich, Everton and Real Madrid.

Liverpool are also, however, interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.
Reputable sources, including transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, have suggested that Dortmund will refuse to sell the Englishman in this window as they don’t want to lose both him and Haaland in the same summer.
But next year, it looks set in stone Klopp's side will make a move for the star.
With James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara all on the wrong side of 30, it's not surprising Liverpool are chasing midfield reinforcements.

But whether they can or will sign both Bellingham and Nunes is yet to be seen.
Meanwhile, Leeds are after further reinforcements in this area, despite signing Marc Roca and Tyler Adams already in this window.
The Yorkshire-based side have accumulated around £92 million from the sales of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha this summer, so would likely not be priced out of a move for Nunes, who is supposedly being valued at £47 million.
The sought after midfielder played regularly in the Champions League for Sporting last season, so Liverpool would hold an advantage in attracting the player as they can offer European football.
