Liverpool legend and pundit Jamie Carragher has given his verdict on whether Jürgen Klopp’s side should sign a midfielder this transfer window.
The Reds are in a mini-crisis with Curtis Jones, Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all sidelined with injuries and Naby Keita only just returning to full fitness.
This has resulted in fans calling for the Reds to replace them with a new midfield general.

However, manager Jürgen Klopp has continued the same message of when the right player becomes available the club would consider it, rather than signing somebody for the sake of it.
Sky pundit Carragher, who played 737 games for Liverpool, agrees with that sentiment and believes the Reds should make the best decision for their long-term future rather than short-term.

"Liverpool's first-choice midfield - and the one that played at Fulham - is getting towards the 30-age mark" wrote Liverpool's former No.23 in his Sky Sports column.
"You think a younger and more energetic player at some stage is needed, they've got those players there in reserve but they're all injured."
"I would only want Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool to do that if they get the midfielder they want."
"Liverpool's success in the transfer market has been down to not panicking, it's not what they've done in the past, it's not what they're doing now and it can't be what they do in the future.

"If there's no midfielder they want out there, don't get him.
"But if they feel there's one who has that quality and is available, I would like them to do it of course. But don't panic."
Liverpool did suffer a central defensive crisis with injuries just a couple of seasons ago, and many a fan will not want to go through a similar situation in a different position this time around.
The Reds have been linked with Matheus Nunes, Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella among others, and if they are to sign one they will need to act soon as the deadline strikes on September 1st.
