A deal which would’ve seen French star Aurelien Tchouameni switch the red of Monaco for the white of Real Madrid appeared to be all but complete. However, recent developments suggest talks aren’t quite as advanced as once thought. Liverpool, fellow admirers of Tchouameni, could be granted the opportunity to pounce.
The Merseyside are targeting a young, high calibre midfielder to rejuvenate their ageing engine room. The likes of Nicolo Barella and Jude Bellingham have been touted as potential alternatives to Tchouameni, but the lingering rumours insinuate the £80 million man is Jürgen Klopp’s pick of the bunch.
The fresh reports today from The Mirror suggesting the 22-year-old is unsure where he’ll be playing his football next season will encourage Liverpool. The midfielder has enjoyed a fine season as an all-action combatant in the middle of the park, offering quality both offensively and defensively.

Tchouameni’s ability to seamlessly deputise for N’Golo Kante for the France national team is a testament to the youngster’s talent. Real Madrid were seeking to pair him up with compatriot Eduardo Camavinga to form an exciting, young midfield duo. However, it would appear there is still time for Liverpool to have their say in that regard, prying him away from the Bernebeu club’s clutches and bringing him to England’s north-east instead.
Whether Liverpool are successful in capturing the services of Tchouameni will likely impact the future of the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita. Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to rediscover his pre-injury form this season whilst PSG are said to hold an interest in the £30 million-rated Keita. Both could be on the move this summer.
It appears to be the case that Tchouameni’s most likely destination remains to be Real Madrid. However, Liverpool have been offered a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of the Frenchman. That said, Jude Bellingham wouldn’t exactly be a poor alternative if the Reds are to miss out on Tchouameni.
