Matthijs De Ligt has heaped praise on Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk in an interview with ESPN.
De Ligt joined German Champions Bayern Munich for £68 million from Juventus this summer after rejecting advances from Chelsea and Liverpool.
When asked if himself and Van Dijk are the best partnership in international football, De Ligt had this to say:

“We could be, I don’t know. That’s not for us to decide or for us to say.”
“Plus, we play with three at the back, but I know what you mean.”
“I think Virgil is one of the best centre-backs in the world. He is amazing. He has already shown for a couple of years that he is one of the best, if not the best. “

“If we could be the best? I don’t know, the most important thing is that we play good as a team. You can play good as a partnership, but if the whole team is playing bad, then it’s no good.”
Van Dijk joined Liverpool in 2018 for £75 million and has become one of the best defenders in world football during his time at the club.
The 31 year-old was a key component of Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions league winning campaigns, earning himself the PFA player of the year award in 2019.
Despite his long-term injury in 2020, the Dutchman returned to action at the start of last season and was as immense as ever as Liverpool fought Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Van Dijk will be hoping for another injury free campaign as he prepares to try and take Netherlands all the way to victory during the World Cup, which starts in November.
