Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been battling to become the best player in world football for the last decade and more, however, their time might be over as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland begin to takeover.
Both Mbappe and Haaland were in action tonight for Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain respectively.
City’s Norway super star scored twice as they thrashed Spanish La Liga side Sevilla 4-0 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Whilst Mbappe was the star of the show as his two goals helped PSG secure a 2-1 win over Serie A giants Juventus at the Parc des Princes.

The two favourites for this season’s Champions League are off the mark and they look like they will take some beating.
Haaland’s brace tonight marked his 20th Champions League appearance with his 25th goal. He has become the youngest player to reach this feat at 22 years and 47 days old. The previous record holder? Mbappe at 22 years and 80 days old.
It is clear to see that the two new stars of world football will be going toe to toe as they battle to become the best player in the world.
They are the obvious names to take over from the legendary tussle between Messi and Ronaldo.

At this stage, Mbappe is currently in the lead in terms of goals scored, as the Frenchman is currently on 217 whilst Haaland is on 145.
Many fans feel that by signing Haaland, City will finally be able to get their hands on the elusive Champions League trophy. However, manager Pep Guardiola doesn’t feel that way.
He said: “All the players the club decided to sign this season came in to try to make us better otherwise it would not make sense.

“Is that help going to help us win the title? I don't know. I always have belief, but if we rely only on Erling's shoulders, we are not going to win the Champions League. What we have to do is play well, create chances to help him score goals and hopefully we can do it.”
Although they are without doubt two of the biggest stars in football right now they still have a long way to go if they are to reach the heights that Messi and Ronaldo reached.
The pair have a combined total of 1,588 goals. They have also won a staggering 12 Ballon d’Or awards between them.

They have been going hammers and tongs for the last decade or so, but they are still more than capable of playing at the highest level.
Haaland or Mbappe, who will come out on top? Only time will tell.
