Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo did not vote for one another, while award winner Robert Lewandowski nominated both men for the Best FIFA Men's Player prize.
After another glorious, record-breaking year during which he bagged a hatful of goals, Lewandowski took home the Player of the Year trophy for the second consecutive year.
According to FIFA, the award is handed to "the most outstanding player in men's football as voted for by an international jury".
National team coaches and captain are all given a vote, as well as a journalist from each country in addition to the fans having an input.
Lewandowski beat Messi and Mo Salah to the prize after scoring a record 41 Bundesliga goals as Bayern Munich won the league again last term.
Voting as Poland captain, Lewandowski went for Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho as his winner following his Champions League and Euro 2020 heroics.
Messi and Ronaldo were his second and third choices respectively. The pair of footballing titans typically never seem to vote for one another and that trend continued this year.
Argentina skipper Messi opted for Paris Saint-Germain teammates Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in first and second, with Karim Benzema getting his final vote.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo, who won a special award at this year's ceremony, selected Lewandowski, N'Golo Kante and Jorginho in that order.
Messi has only voted for long-time rival Ronaldo on two occasions in 2018 and 2019 respectively, with Ronaldo snubbing the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner from his shortlist every year apart from 2020.
Salah wrote Jorginho for first place on his ballot, Messi in second and then Lewandowski in third.
The results showed Lewandowski beat Messi by four points overall.
England captain Harry Kane chose his fellow striker as the best player, though manager Gareth Southgate went for Jorginho, the man who helped Italy beat England in the Euro 2020 final.
