After just one full season at the club, Joselu has been added to the legends section of Real Madrid’s website.
Real Madrid enjoyed another historic season in 2023/24, claiming their 36th La Liga title and their 15th Champions League trophy.
Key to their success, was Spanish striker Joselu, who re-joined the club on loan from Espanyol at the start of the season, after briefly playing for the club in 2011/12.

But, after the 34-year-old was confirmed to be leaving the Spanish champions for Qatari Al-Gharafa, Real Madrid have inducted him into the legends section of the club website.
Despite scoring 17 goals and assisting three in his 49 appearances fans are divided on Joselu’s label as a club legend alongside players like Zinedine Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Writing on X, one fan said: “That brace against Bayern already gave him legendary status 🐐”

Another added: “Yes. He deserves that spot. Man did more in a year than what Hazard did in his whole Real Madrid career.’
But not all fans agreed, with some arguing that the striker’s brief spell at the club does not qualify him to be named a legend, regardless of his importance last season.
One fan wrote: “As much as I love Joselu this is just not right, spent just one season with us and he’s regarded as a legend?
Another added: “Joselu as a legend? Is Madrid serious?

And one fan didn’t hold back their anger, writing: “Somebody explain this rubbish? One valid reason for this? Just because he got lucky one game?”
The big moment that fans’ will always remember of Joselu’s Madrid career came in May, as the Spaniard came off the bench to score two quickfire goals in the final minutes of the Champions league semi-final against Bayern Munich.
Joselu’s vital goals booked Madrid’s place in the Champions League final, which they went on to win, defeating Borussia Dortmund in Wembley.

But, it was not enough for the club to hold on to the player as, after triggering their €1.5 million option to buy Joselu from Espanyol, they sold him to Al-Gharafa for the same amount
This was done as a goodwill gesture to the player who will receive the highest salary of his career in Qatar.
