Antonio Rudiger didn't hesitate when asked to name the one centre-back he would sign for Real Madrid

Antonio Rudiger didn't hesitate when asked to name the one centre-back he would sign for Real Madrid

The former Chelsea defender named the Premier League player he would like to join him at Real Madrid.

Antonio Rudiger has named the one centre-back he would like Real Madrid to sign.

Rudiger, 31, is viewed as one of the top central defenders in world football. Since his transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid in 2022, the centre-back has won several trophies including La Liga and the Champions League titles.

Rudiger has formed a formidable partnership with Brazilian defender Eder Militao at the heart of Madrid's defence since arriving at the Bernabeu.

However, the Germany international admitted there is one Premier League defender he would like Madrid to sign if they were given the chance.

"I say William Saliba," Rudiger told the Inside Scoop podcast, although the former Chelsea man was quick to express that he is "happy" with his current partner Militao.

“I like Gabriel from Arsenal as well,” added Rudiger.

Rudiger's admiration for the Gunners pair is no surprise, given Mikel Arteta's side boasted the best defensive record in the Premier League last season.

They conceded just 29 goals across the 38 league games last term but still fell short of glory, finishing two points behind Manchester City.

"If you see Arsenal, like the two centre-backs who are playing together, they are doing since two years now, they're doing an amazing job," Rudiger added.

"Like the transformation from Arsenal, that was a bit before and now, and those two are the pillar of it.

"You have with Gabriel the more aggressive leader and for example, Saliba is, this brother plays clean. No, really, you have to give it to him. You know, he looks like a silent leader."

Arsenal fans will be hoping this is simply a throwaway comment from Rudiger as opposed to the start of concrete interest from Madrid.

Saliba, 23, is believed to be happy at in North London, and is under contract until 2027 - with Gabriel, 26, also tied to the club for three more years.
